With hundreds of scores to his credit, Emmy-nominated composer Amin Bhatia has written music for film, television, radio, theatre, and albums, for several decades, composing with as much passion as the day he started.
“I love the collaborative process in music for film and TV,” says Amin. “Unlike songwriting and concert music, you have such inspiration from the film itself. I love making music that serves a story.”

Amin and long-time friend and collaborator Ari Posner have won numerous Canadian Screen Awards for their work on Anne with an E (CBC), Detention Adventure (CBC), Flashpoint (CTV/CBS) and Let’s Go Luna (PBS),as well as an Emmy Award nomination for the Disney sci-fi anime series Get Ed.
Amin’s prizes in the Roland International Synthesizer competition led to work with David Foster and Steve Porcaro of Toto. Some of Amin’s synth programming is featured on Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Bhatia’s solo albums The Interstellar Suite, Virtuality, and Requests from the Vault are now standard repertoire in music competitions in North America.

As many of you know, in lieu of gifts, Bhatia Music gives to several charities at various times of the year. They’re listed below and we encourage you to read about and/or support them. (Amin’s yearly blab follows afterward for those interested.)![]()
However you celebrate this time of year we hope that you have a wonderful and safe holiday.
With love from Amin, and the staff and families of Bhatia Music.![]()

First of all thank you for the cards and messages we have already received from so many of you. Many of them now arrive in the mail which is so cool and futuristic, lol!![]()
This year has been one of wonderful evolution: Angie and Myron got married this year. They’ve been together for a while and we had approved of him long ago, so the wedding was just a big party, mostly with Myron’s wonderful family since they all live in Toronto, though some of our family came from other parts of Canada and England. We all had a such a great time, just as we did the previous year at Kel and Darren’s wedding. As a father I am so happy to see both my daughters with wonderful spouses. As I’ve said before, despite my best efforts both my daughters have turned out great, lol.![]()
My wife and soulmate Danielle continues her many talents: This year her contracts in experiential education and communication coaching pretty much doubled and she’s able to do much of it online. Her Etsy store Delias Vintage Charm continues to grow, with sales all over Canada (…pause on the U.S. until all this tariff confusion gets fixed!) She also helps to run the business side of Bhatia Music, alongside my trusted “composer wrangler” Arlene Bishop.![]()
This year we pulled the plug on our money pit of a townhome and found a much better place in the west side of the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga to be specific. We’ve followed the trend of many Toronto citizens who are tired of the downtown construction and gridlock. Toronto currently is the worst city in North America for driving. I always thought the 405 in LA was bad but we are now officially worse, with the 401 and Gardner Parking lot…sorry, Gardner Expressway.![]()
The move had the expected unexpected (..we needed a LOT of anti-static bubblewrap for all the gear…) but we’re mostly settled in now. Our new townhome is actually an older design of split level with multiple large rooms, meaning Danielle gets a decent size office, I get a decent size studio, and the living room gets Dolby Atmos surround! Our home inspector said “they just don’t make houses this good anymore” We’re very happy here and there’s much more greenery to be enjoyed, since we back onto a golf course. A nice change from jackhammers and traffic jams!![]()
The entertainment industry is certainly wobbly right now, reacting to so many world events and trends. I am very lucky and grateful to my many musicians, engineers, technicians, agents, administrators, supervisors and clients for the projects we were able to do this year. They include more installation projects at Science North, co-writing Rosie’s Rules for PBS with Ari Posner at Pirate Sound, and new collaborations with Bryan Bindon at Hive Mind. More news and music stuff at Bandcamp and at the Bhatia Music website.![]()
More and more projects means more and more albums, either directly by me or from projects and artists I’ve worked with. Since playlists are now a thing I’ve compiled a playlist of my top twelve tracks, featuring guest artists Patrick Moraz, Steve Porcaro, Ari Posner and others. I hope you enjoy the eclectic combo of electronic and orchestral. Links are in comments.![]()
I’m very grateful (and surprised) by messages that I get from friends telling me how they enjoy these ramblings. Much of this is because of my very encouraging parents (there’s a song honouring them in the playlist) who taught their kids to always maintain a positive attitude about things. Even with the many challenges on our planet, one cannot predict or control all the problems in the world. Just work on what you can do for yourself and your loved ones around you. If everyone does that then things will move in the right direction.![]()
Here’s something you can try which is definitely working for me: instead of posting about how someone is being cruel, post about someone or some group that is doing something nice. Encourage, don’t complain. The social media algorithms are deliberately built to spread hate. Don’t let them.![]()
Some other observations, including ones I’ve mentioned before:![]()
Every day make your spouse or partner laugh. It is one of the most loving things you can do for them. It also helps for when you screw up something later.![]()
The best restaurant for us this year is a diner west of the city in the neighbourhood of Etobicoke: The Olive Diner - great service, very affordable, and the best turkey clubhouse ever. (No we do not get paid for this endorsement we just wanna tell people when we find a good thing.)![]()
AI is exciting only if you use it to assist you. It cannot and should not compose or create or speak for you.![]()
“Work hard at not offending others. Work just as hard at not getting offended.” I don’t know who said that but it’s a great quote. When people get things wrong it doesn’t mean they hate you. It’s a teaching moment.![]()
We are each on different spectrums of politics, careers, sexualities, origins and aptitudes. Wherever you are, try not to become extreme about it. We have to get back to discussions not antagonizations with people who are different from us.![]()
I hope something in these ramblings inspire you. On behalf of my families at work and at home, have a happy and safe holiday.![]()

A Memory of Mum and Dad (feat. Ajay Prasanna on flute) is my latest single and my first Dolby Atmos release, (thank you Keith Ohman). My Mum loved eastern melodies, my Dad western classical music. This piece is a thank you to both of them. Here’s to all our parents. More tracks to come. ~ Amin Bhatia![]()
